Heartist / Fine Artist

The art I create reflects my own deep longings for nature and simplicity. My paintings embody light, flow, spaciousness, room to breathe and a profound heartfelt love for this world. It is my sincere hope that in sharing and selling these artful pieces of my soul I am helping others to experience intense beauty and sublime solace. I offer original art, art prints, commissions and customized artistic experiences for radiantly real people with beautiful hungry hearts (thats how I see you anyway!) who value beauty, nature, and connection.

All photography provided by Rachel Cruse or Frank Wall.

I Believe

I believe that beauty is essential. I believe that we are all connected to everything else, that there is rhythm, music, love and purpose at the heart of existence. And that the natural world is constantly communicating the answers to all possible questions.

I believe we are here to discover our gifts and give them back to the world.

I believe in the simple life, in small pleasures and great passions. And I am convinced that besides art, dancing in the rain shouting joyful demands at thunderstorms is the best therapy to the madness of modern day life.

I have felt a breathaking intimacy between my heart and all the stars in the sky. Sleeping out under that canopy has taught me this: There is no such thing as too much beauty, or too much gratitude.

Life is Full and Good

Life is Full and Good

Life is Full and Good

I’m the luckiest woman I know. I have three beautiful children who challenge me daily to be the best most patient human I can be. I have a fella worth more than gold who loves me so much (you should see what he has to put up with). Not to boast but he happens to have these wicked sexy forearms that keep me endlessly fixated. I live in the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island, Canada. Steeped in natural beauty with so many huge trees, hiking trails, rugged coastlines and beaches. I could never run out of places to explore or paint. Plus I have the pleasure of living on a delightful 10 acre property with a greenhouse and an abundant garden full of flowers, veggies, weeds, berries, weeds, fruit trees, did I mention weeds? cats, chickens, a duck and a water buffalo. When I don’t have anything better to do I also work part time in town as a professional picture framer. My life is full and good.

Simple Life

I’m pretty sure I’ve alluded to this already, but I like to keep things simple. I dream of spending my days in a land with no sounds of traffic, plenty of sunsets, and lots of wood to chop. In fact chopping firewood and collecting seashells are among my great passions after painting and creating. Because of this I wear comfy plaid flannel shirts and go barefoot much of the time. Beach camping is my happy place and I like to go adventuring as often as possible.

My Studio

Right now my studio is under construction and I am set up in the family living room area. It is not ideal and I can’t really host formal studio visits. Here are some of my favourite images from my studio in a past tense. I look forward to sharing as the new one develops.

An Invitation

If you would like to see a particular painting in person please contact me with that request. I’ll tell you where it is available on public display. Or if it is at home in my studio I’ll invite you over for tea. We drink a lot of tea around here.
